South Korea plans to increase import duty for Chinese plywood to 27.1% and bind suppliers to sell plywood at lower price level. The final verdict will be brought in the nearest months by the Board of Treasury of South Korea 

Within the first half of 2013 Russia produced up to 3.8% more plywood in comparison with the same period of 2012 year. Contrariwise hardboard production reduced to 9.8%

In May 2013 plywood import in USA reduced to 18% in comparison with the same period of 2012. China and Indonesia significantly decreased plywood sales to this market

Implementing the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) in the furniture sector is probably more pronounced than in any other sector. Much of the wood content of a furniture item may be hidden, particularly in upholstered products. There has been some consolidation in the international furniture industry in recent years – particularly driven by IKEA in Europe – but the sector remains very fragmented compared to many other industrial sectors.

Within June 2013 hardboard production in Belarus decreased to 18.3% in comparison with the same period of 2012. Within January-June, 2013 hardboard production in Russia also decreased to 9.8% in comparison with the same period of the previous year.

DIN (German Institute for Standardization) and ABNT (Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas) launched the proposal to elaborate a new uniform global standard chain of custody that will reduce current costs for multiple certifications. The advantages are largely going beyond the familiar arguments of PEFC and FSC, say the initiators.

European plywood trade is coming under pressure from the combined effects of the recent slowdown in European construction and the enforcement of the EU Timber Regulation from 3 March onwards. European consumption of plywood is weakening with declining construction activity since the middle of 2012.

Within January-May, 2013 Ukrainian mills produced 72.5 thousand m3 of plywood. In May plywood production showed 12% reduction in comparison with April, 2013
