Within October 2014 plywood import in Japan reduced to 13.4%. In comparison with July 2014 reduction estimated 15%. Total volume of supplied plywood in Japan in August was 460.3% thousand m3. Experts consider demand fall off starting from May, 2014
In the first six months of 2014, European Union imports of softwood plywood were 898,000 cubic meters, 17% more than the same period the previous year. Imports from Brazil increased 19% to 657,000 m3 in the first half of 2014. There was also a 26% rise in imports from China to 97,400 cubic meters, and a 5% increase from Chile to 72,300 cubic meters. Much of the gain in imports was due to improving market conditions in the UK.
Within January-September, 2014 plywood export from Russia increased to 13.8% in comparison with the same period of the previous year. Plywood export to near-abroad countries estimated 198.3 thousand m3 (+5.4%), to far-abroad – 785.5 thousand m3 (+26%)
Within January-June, 2014 Finland increased plywood export to 10% in comparison with the same period of the previous year. The most increase showed Netherlands + 32% and Sweden +13%. Significant growth was also admitted in Germany +9% and in Great Britain +5%
Within January-September, 2014 saw timber products production in Ukraine decreased to 4.6%. Plywood production on the contrary increased to 5.7% (140 thousand m3). Veneer production within mentioned period increased up to 28.2%. Wooden window and door production showed 23.3% decrease
IKEA Retail Poland announced its results for the financial year 2013/2014 (from 1 September 2013 until 31 August 2014). Sales increased by 14% compared to the previous year and amounted to 2.38 billion zł

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is considering providing a loan of up to €50 million to Kronospan FLLC Belarus, to finance the expansion of the production capacity of its operating plant at Smorgon in Grodno region of Belarus. The proposed expansion will involve increased demand for wood as raw materials for the plant.
According to Bloomberg reports Steinhoff Int. Holdings Ltd. plans to further expand in Europe after rising sales on the continent helped increase full-year profit by 38%. Steinhoff operates retail stores selling furniture, kitchens, household goods, products for home decoration, electrical appliances and consumer electronics in Europe.
