Within January-April, 2014 EU-countries decreased tropical wood product import. Bold timber volume reduced to 34%, ornamental wood products – to 3%, plywood – to 8%, glued timber – to 6%
International trade fair for forestry and forest technology INTERFORST 2014 will take place within July 16-20, 2014 in Munich, Germany. As the industry’s gathering for technical expertise, it brings together experts and decisionmakers from the scientific, industrial and political sectors.
In the first four months of 2014, the volume of tropical hardwood imports (round wood, sawn wood, mouldings and decking, veneers, plywood ) fell into both Belgium (-7%) and France (-5%), the two largest volume European destinations for these products. On the contrary, tropical wood imports into the Netherlands were up 5% in round wood equivalent volume terms in the first four months of 2014.
The overall timber production in Romania was 5 million cubic meters in 2013, an impressive increase over the 2000 output (1.4 million cbm). Of the total production, the three Austrian companies (Schweighofer, Egger and Kronospan) purchase by far the largest amount of wood, mainly through their provider Romsilva, the Romanian state company managing local forest areas.
USA imports of hardwood plywood increased by 4% to 240,723 m3 in February. However, hardwood plywood imports were 10% lower year-to-date than in February 2013.
Hardwood plywood imports from China fell by 11% from January to 121,960 m3.
In April 2014 wood product exports in Brazil (except pulp and paper) increased 1.4% in terms of value compared to April 2013.
Pine plywood exports expanded 4.4% in value in April 2014 compared to April 2013, from US$36.4 million to US$ 38 million. The volume of exports increased 6.6%, from 95,900 m3 to 102,200 m3, during the same period.
Within January-March, 2014 plywood production in Finland increased up to 5%. In the beginning of 2014 companies-members of Finnish Forest Industries Federation bought 8 500 thousand m3 of wood from private owners. It caused purchasing volume increase to 25%.
Within January-March 2014 plywood export in Russia increased up to 22% (in comparison with the same period of the previous year) and amounted to 496 thousand m3 (296 million USD)
Within January-March, 2014 Russia produced 850 thousand m3 of plywood (+3.1% more than within the same period of the previous year), 1.7 million m2 of chipboard (+1% more than within the same period of the previous year).
